Off-Label Uses of V-Grade 5S Software
The core of V-Grade 5S series programs (Tin Model LLC) is a flux generation and integration tool. These programs may be employed in studies of a variety of processes or natural phenomena involving radiative flux.
Example 1: Ion Beam Bombardment

Ion-beam bombardments for material modification during growth and post deposition are important techniques. In these processes, uniformity or gradients of the cumulated bombardment is important for achieving desired outcomes.
V-Grade 5S series programs can handily and accurately simulate the ion-beam bombardment. Optimization of positioning and orientation of an ion source can bring about substantial quality improvements in manufactured products.

Example 2: Radiative Heating

Substrate heating with lamps is common in manufacturing processes of thin-film materials. Heat flux emanated from a lamp propagates in a similar way as material fluxes or ion species. V-Grade 5S series programs can be readily employed for studies of heating uniformity of moving parts (substrates).

Optimal placement of lamps in a deposition chamber, which may feature complex substrate motion and shadow masks, can promote large-area uniformity in physical properties of grown materials.
Example 3: Solar Energy Gathering

In a different arena, V-Grade 5S series programs can be employed for studies of solar-energy collection and installations. The dual-axis motion in V-Grade 5S lends itself naturally to Earth’s movements: the daily rotation and yearly orbiting around the Sun. Combined with the freedom in setting the surface-normal vector, V-Grade 5S programs are suitable for studies of solar-energy collection of surfaces in terrains of any topography and situated at any Earth latitude. These studies can yield energy gathering with respect to seasonal variation, geographic locations, panel orientation, as well as presence of shadow-producing elements.
